I have read some of the documentation about how 'hooks" work but I do not know which hooks to take advantage of.

I want to write a plugin that launches a separate page when a new user wants to add a new comment.

In other words, I want the ability to insist that the user add more than just a username and email. I want to require that more information be inputted.

Maybe such a plug-in already exists or perhaps something simular. Does this sound familiar?

Hey,

I'm using a slightly modified version of the totally awesome wordpress skin Modicus Remix for my website. It's fantastic and I've been enjoying it very much. There is one problem I can't solve though: somehow I can't find a way to show double linebreaks in comments. It works between the first and second paragraph, but any double linebreak after that is being converted into a single one. If a comment looks like this when it's being written:

"Hey there.

I just dropped by to tell you how awesome your wordpress skin is.

No, really.

It's dope!"

…. it will look like this after it's posted:

"Hey there.

I just dropped by to tell you how awesome your wordpress skin is.
No, really.
It's dope!"

This is becoming quite an inconvenience for me as the website is attracting more and more attention. I can't for my life solve it. I've tried googling it but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any ideas I'd be eternally grateful.

Xarzu on WordPress, PayPal and PHP

I imagine that this should be a very easy thing to do.

I want to modify my wordpress blog so that users must buy a subscription if they want to post a comment.

That is it. End of story. Nothing more elaborate.

Now, after some thought, I have come up with what I think are the simplest components.

The whole PayPal registration can be done apart from the WordPress Blog. At least, this can be done this way at first to test and to make sure it will work.

So we just have a button that will take users there.

Then we can just have an Identification Number that can be used to identify that they have registered.

So, all I really need amounts to a button that exists for first-time posters. The PHP code logic already exists for those who post a comment for the first time. When someone goes to the web site and they want to comment on a blog, it prompts for some required fields. Right now, the required fields are Username and Email address. All I have to do is add a button for them to sign up an account on paypal which could take them to another area. Then, just as we use cookies to provide a username and email address, we could use cookies to store an ID showing that they have completed buying a subscription.

There seems to be a number of WordPress plugins that I can use to make my WordPress a system where people have to buy a subscription in order to post. Some of the plugins are free and some are not.

PayPal API Subscriptions from Zack Design (free) by Isacc Rowntree

Word Press Membership Plugin from WP-Member.com (not free)

PHPBAY

Easy Pay Pal (free)

ISubscribe – wordpress adaptable paypal membership by justin Blough (not free) 44 bucks

WPB-Paypal costs 42 USD

PAYPAL SUBSCRIPTION MANAGER ON SOFTPEDIA BY Xavier Media Intl costs 89 dollars

Chuck Lasker’s web site reviews several producas and settles on “Rapid Action Profits combined with the Membership Plus add on” (costs money)

Justin Tadlock’s website mentions two products:

o “Your Members” (costs 50 bucks)

o “aMember” (costs 179.95)

I have spent some time looking at the two free systems. I have done everything in the instructions for setting up the “PayPal API Subscriptions”. According to this design, you have a paypal button inside the actual text of the BLOG (see http://www.arguemax.com at the bottom of the current blog to see). This is not exactly the right design for me. And, although I have done everything in the instructions for setting up the “PayPal API Subscriptions”, like I said, I still have not been able to get it to work. When the user clicks on the button he is taken to a page that says that sign-ons are disabled.

The other free system, “Easy Pay Pal” looks like what someone who was trying to sell merchandice would want in a plug in.

The good news is this. I have a paypal account and I have html forms code just waiting to be placed in the right place and in the right way. All I need is some good advice.

Well it would take some wp loop magic to check use credentials and depending on what they are, serve two different versions of the html comments block area.

Good place to start would be the wordpress support forums, or we offer customization services =)

    Hello Forum!

I am new to WordPress and I have a lot of questions regarding how to customize my WordPress
blog. First of all, I want to put a link in my blog that points to the forum I also have on my web site.

I want to put it in the same area where WordPress has a link to the 'About' page. I know that you

can add pages in the administrative area, but this would be a direct link to another URL rather than

    an added page.

I have been giving this a lot more thought.

I think that instead of removing the comments area completely (I was thinking that I would just direct them to my forum which is in sync with the blog), I will have an intermediary step for first time comment posters in the blog.

A plug-in must exist for what I want to do. I just need to have people who are familiar with it to point me in the right direction. On the other hand, perhaps I need to do do the modification to the comments.php code like you have said.

Here is the simple modification I want to make to my WordPress blog. Will you please tell me how I can do this? When I new person wants to make his first comment to the blog and he clicks on the comment link, he is taken to a new page or form just before he is taken to the place where he can enter his name, email address, and the text. How can I do this?

Let me give you an example of what I mean. Suppose I charge for membership on my web site and users have to first sign up with paypal. This would be done just one time and only for new users. If someone wanted to post a comment on my blog, the process for registration would require an additional page that they would see prior to them making their first comment.

Can you please tell me how I would do this?

I have bbPress in sync with my WordPress. I thought that I would do this modification on the bbPress and direct the user log into the bbpress side first. But I think this will be a bigger headache. I knew that the first step was to make sure the blog and the forum had a theme I wanted to keep because maybe I need to modify the theme to make this work.

Well, now I have a theme installed that I know I am going to keep. It matches what I have in bbPress too. After going over a few scenarios, I now think I will just post a link to the forum in the blog. But I still would like this intermediary step for first time comment posters who sign up.
